Hong Kong Mahjong Score Calculator — Points & Half-Laak

Convert final faan into each player’s points. Compare our 8-faan house rules with a 10-faan half-laak preset for discard wins and self-draws, with worked examples.

Already know the final faan? Choose a payment preset to see what the winner receives and each other player pays. The hand calculator can help if you still need the faan.

Choose your table rules

This is a points calculation, not a check that the hand meets a table’s minimum. Enter the final faan; selecting self-draw does not add another faan.

House rules: B = 2^min(faan,8). Discarder pays 3B; on self-draw each opponent pays B.

The half-laak comparison uses base points 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 96, 128. The discarder pays 4× the base; on self-draw, each opponent pays 2×. Its 3–10 faan payments match the cited HKMA table; the 0–2 rows are mathematical extensions, not wins allowed by that source’s 3-faan minimum. Special liability is not included.

How to convert faan into points

  1. Choose the preset agreed for your table. Street Corner uses an 8-faan cap; the half-laak comparison uses a 10-faan cap and different payment multipliers.
  2. Enter the final faan, including any self-draw, flower and other bonuses already earned. Select discard win or self-draw to set the payment split.
  3. Read the winner’s gain and all three opponents’ changes. Positive points are received, negative points are paid; the four changes sum to zero. Faan above the preset cap uses the capped value.

3-faan example: the same hand, different payments

All four examples start with 3 final faan. They compare payment methods, not the faan gained by changing how a particular hand wins. In a discard win, the two uninvolved opponents pay 0.

Calculator questions

Does the calculator add 1 faan when I select self-draw?

No. Enter the final faan after all applicable bonuses. Here, self-draw only changes who pays and how much. Use the hand calculator first if you still need to work out the faan.

Why does the table include 0–2 faan?

These rows are mathematical extensions for tables with a lower agreed minimum. The cited HKMA rules require at least 3 faan. A points result does not mean a hand is eligible to win at your table.

Can I use the result as a currency amount or a liability ruling?

The result is in points. It does not convert stakes to currency or handle special liability, penalties or a running match ledger. Confirm your table’s payment rules before using the comparison.

Check the rules behind the result

Use the faan table to check combinations, compare table conventions, then return to the calculator with the conditions agreed.
