Website Privacy — Local Saves, Storage & External Links

Read how this mahjong website handles local learning and game saves, browser storage, email feedback and external links, separately from the Android app.

Scope of this notice

This notice explains how this KX Works Hong Kong Mahjong website handles information. It covers the static learning pages, calculators and the browser game served from this site. The Android app has separate advertising and analytics behaviour described by its own privacy information.

You can read the website and play the browser game without creating an account, entering an email address or making a payment. The website does not use device fingerprinting to replace an account.

Information kept in your browser

The website may use browser local storage for your language choice, game settings, tutorial state and current game save. This information stays on the device and browser you used. It is needed to remember your choices and let you continue a local game.

You control this information through your browser. Clearing this site’s data removes the local settings and game progress. Website saves are not uploaded to a KX Works account and are not transferred to the Android app.

Each calculator keeps one local draft of valid inputs and its last edited time, including an unfinished hand. Start over clears that calculator’s draft. Shared calculation links contain the inputs needed to reproduce the calculation; anyone you give the link to can read them. Opening a shared example does not replace your saved draft until you edit the inputs.

The match scorekeeper keeps the current four-player ledger and one latest finished snapshot on this browser, including optional player names, rules, hand records and times. These stay local unless you explicitly enable table viewing or create a result link. Clearing site data deletes them. Copied settlement text contains the names and point results you choose to share.

Saved table templates keep only names, seat order and supported rule settings on this browser. You can rename or delete them without changing match records. Settlement PNG images are generated locally; you can hide player names before saving. No upload is needed to export. Clearing site data also removes saved table templates.

Optional table and result sharing

When you enable live viewing or generate a result link, this site stores the selected match’s rules, active hand records, scores and times. Names are omitted when Hide player names is selected. Anyone with the view link can read and forward it, but cannot use it to score or delete the match. Templates, calculator drafts and game saves are not included.

An explicit scoring handover creates a private invitation valid for up to 10 minutes and pauses scoring. Unlike a view link, this invitation reveals the complete current ledger, including names and redo records, to its recipient. Acceptance rotates the management credential and removes the old device’s write permission; ordinary view links stay unchanged. The private handover copy is removed on acceptance, cancellation or expiry. The recipient must save its new credential and ledger locally before editing.

Live links expire 7 days after creation and fixed results after 30 days. A fixed result does not change when the source match changes. Revoking a link deletes its server copy; expired records become unreadable immediately and are removed by scheduled cleanup or when the service next starts. Revocation cannot remove copies already saved by recipients.

Management credentials stay in the authorised browser; the server stores verification digests. View links do not contain management credentials. Used share identifier digests are retained to prevent revoked addresses from being recreated; they contain no match content. Revoke links before clearing site data; clearing browser data does not delete server copies and loses the local management entry. Keep the scoring page open to sync. A disconnected viewer may only have an older copy. These links do not grant another device editing permission.

Analytics, advertising and cookies

From 19 October 2026, public pages use Google Analytics 4 to measure visits and engagement. Google receives the page address and title, referring site, browser and device information, and a cookie-based browser identifier. Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_*) distinguish visits and sessions and normally last up to two years, renewed on visits. Google processes this information on its infrastructure, which may be outside your country or region.

We remove query strings and fragments from analytics page addresses and send only the origin of a referring site. We do not send player names, scores, game saves, form input or sharing credentials to Google Analytics. Shared-result pages and the embedded game do not load Analytics; local play events stay in page memory. Advertising personalisation, Google signals and enhanced measurement are disabled.

You can block Google Analytics requests with browser privacy tools or the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout), and clear analytics cookies through browser settings. Blocking analytics does not prevent play or scoring. Google explains its processing at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

The Android app is a separate product surface and may include advertising and analytics services. Opening Google Play or kxworks.dev leaves this website, and the destination handles information under its own privacy terms.

Technical requests and hosting logs

When the site is delivered over the internet, the hosting and network provider receives ordinary technical request data such as an IP address, requested URL, browser information and access time. The provider may retain access or security logs to deliver, protect and troubleshoot the service.

This website is hosted by Cloudflare; technical logs are subject to its service policies and retention settings. KX Works does not use this technical request data for behavioural advertising. You may contact us for the current hosting information.

External links and contact

Links to Google Play, kxworks.dev or another website are operated under that service’s own privacy policy. We do not pass your browser game save in those links.

For a privacy question, email me@kxworks.dev. If you contact us, your email provider and ours process the message and addressing information needed to deliver and answer it. Do not include a game save or other sensitive information unless it is necessary to explain the issue.
