  • A complete four-set-and-pair hand may still have zero faan.
  • Our practice mode permits zero faan; standard play and the cited HKMA rules require at least 3.

Complete shape does not guarantee faan

Chicken Hand is our label for a standard four-set-and-pair win with no other scoring item. The example includes an open Chow, two more Chows, a 6 Bamboo Pung and a South pair, with no selected flowers.

The open Chow removes Concealed Hand; the Pung prevents All Chows; the hand uses three suits and has no scoring honour Pung. That is why the example remains at 0.

Can a zero-faan hand win?

Only when the table allows a zero-faan minimum. The linked example deliberately loads the house training minimum of 0. Our standard and full-match modes require 3; the cited HKMA rules also require at least 3, so this zero-faan hand is not eligible there.

The minimum does not add faan

Selecting 3 as the minimum does not turn 0 into 3. Likewise, getting a points result from the separate score calculator does not validate a zero-faan win: that tool converts a number and does not inspect the hand.

Change only the minimum

Load the example: its 0-faan result is accepted at minimum 0. Select minimum 3 and the shape remains complete but is rejected. Return to 0 to see eligibility restored without changing any tile.

With the saved win method, seat wind and round wind, this example is expected to score 0 final faan under sc_hk13_v1_2. The calculator also shows every contributing pattern and whether the hand reaches the selected minimum.

A few things to know

Would self-draw make this example legal at a 3-faan table?

No. With the other conditions unchanged, our game adds Self-draw 1, so the hand has 1 faan and still falls below 3. It is no longer a zero-faan result, but the minimum remains unmet.
