Calculation inputs

Your concealed tiles 0 / 14

Melds 0

Already exposed sets belong here, not in the concealed tiles above.

For a chow, choose its lowest tile. Kongs use four physical tiles.

Winds and winning context

Seat wind follows your position relative to the dealer; round wind is shared by the table. A matching wind pung can score both.

Kong replacement requires a self-draw and a kong. Last-draw and last-discard options depend on your winning method.

Turning this off clears the flowers below. No extra faan is awarded for having no flowers. This does not change the browser game.

How to calculate your hand’s faan

  1. Add the concealed tiles, including the winning tile. Put declared Chows, Pungs and Kongs in Melds. A Kong has four physical tiles but occupies one meld: the concealed count is 14 minus 3 per declared meld.
  2. Choose the winning method and minimum, then check seat wind, round wind and winning tile. Add only the flowers actually received. No extra faan is awarded simply for having no flowers under this house ruleset.
  3. Read shape eligibility first, then the itemised faan, total before the cap and final faan. A complete hand can still fall below the minimum. Eligible house hands link directly to their points calculation.

These are house-rule examples: all concealed, won on a discard, with no selected flowers. The final total includes other applicable items. Little Three Dragons includes both dragon pungs in its 5 faan; Thirteen Orphans is the house 8-faan limit.

For All Pungs and Half Flush, the saved total is 3 + 1 for a dragon pung + 1 for a concealed hand. All Chows totals 2 and does not meet the default 3-faan minimum. Full Flush totals 7 + 1; Little Three Dragons totals 5 + 1.

Calculator questions

Why is a complete hand still below the minimum?

A winning shape and enough faan are separate checks. The All Chows example has 1 faan for the pattern and 1 for a concealed hand under our house rules. Its 2-faan total falls short of the default 3-faan minimum.

Can I use this as an HKMA rules calculator?

The automatic check uses Street Corner house rules. Important differences include the pair allowed for All Chows, concealed-hand bonuses and the limit for Thirteen Orphans. Custom mode adjusts the house total manually; it does not implement another complete ruleset or recognise new hand shapes.

Does changing the winning method change the faan?

Yes, the hand calculator checks self-draw and any compatible winning circumstances as part of the faan breakdown. Limit hands do not add ordinary bonuses. The separate score calculator expects the final faan and does not add these bonuses again.
