Start with these ideas

  • Use only suited 1s and 9s plus honours, with both categories present and the hand complete.
  • HKMA lists 花么 at 1 plus All Pungs 3; our Mixed Terminals award already includes that 4.

Terminals and honours, without middle numbers

A suited terminal is a 1 or 9 in Characters, Dots or Bamboo. Mixed Terminals uses those tiles and honours, with at least one suited terminal and one honour present. In the standard shape, every set is a Pung or Kong.

The example has triplets of 1 Characters, 9 Characters, 1 Dots and South, with Red Dragons as the pair. South is neither the saved East seat nor East round.

Why 1 + 3 and 4 can mean the same subtotal

HKMA lists 花么 at 1 faan and also counts All Pungs 3. Our game instead awards Mixed Terminals 4 and omits the separate All Pungs line. Adding another 3 to the house award would double-count.

The saved house hand adds Concealed Hand 1, totalling 5. Eligible dragon or wind Pungs, self-draw and a qualifying Half Flush may add ordinary faan, subject to exclusions and the 8-faan cap.

A terminal in each set is not enough

A 1–2–3 or 7–8–9 Chow still contains middle-number tiles, so it fails this pattern. With no honours, check Pure Terminals instead; with no suited terminals, check All Honours.

Change South to East

Replace all three Souths with Easts, leaving the saved East seat and East round unchanged. The house breakdown becomes Mixed Terminals 4 + Concealed Hand 1 + Seat Wind 1 + Round Wind 1 = 7. The Red Dragon pair still earns no dragon-Pung faan.

A few things to know

Can Mixed Terminals combine with Half Flush?

Yes in our house rules when all suited terminals belong to one suit and honours remain. For example, replace the saved 1 Dots Pung with a Green Dragon Pung: Mixed Terminals 4 + Half Flush 3 + Dragon Pung 1 + Concealed Hand 1 totals 9 before the cap, settled at 8.
